Beyonce's 'Formation' Video: Controversy Swirls Around Footage

Beyonce reigned over the weekend, dropping an epic video Saturday for the new song "Formation," ahead of a planned appearance at the Super Bowl on Sunday. Controversy over the video put a dent in Queen Bey's crown, however, after a pair of documentary filmmakers complained footage from their film was used without their input.

The spat between the filmmakers and video's director, Melina Matsoukas, was quickly cleared up but underscores how borrowing and inspiration can blow up in an artist's face.

Director Abteen Bagheri and producer Chris Black released the short doc "That B.E.A.T." (contains explicit language) about New Orleans's bounce music and dance scene in 2012. Scenes from the film were used in the "Formation" video, a dreamy ode to Beyonce's roots in Louisiana and African American life.

A barber, Ibrahim Oluyinde, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother to death in the Abule Egba area of the state.

Oluyinde, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly killed his mother on Friday claiming that she was responsible for his father’s death which occurred sometime last year, Punch reports.

It was learnt that at about 2pm on Friday, Oluyinde, paid a visit to his mother in her rented apartment on Bunmi Christopher Close. The duo were indoors until an argument erupted.

The mother, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was said to have raised the alarm, and thereafter begged her son not to kill her.

Neighbours were said to have rushed to the scene where they saw the woman in a pool of blood.

No fewer than 30 male passengers died in the Adeosun area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday after a trailer conveying them tumbled down the road.

Over 50 other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash, while two rams were killed.

The accident occurred on the portion of the expressway which had been recently reconstructed.

Punch's correspondents counted 25 corpses at the scene of the accident. Eyewitnesses said about five corpses had been taken to a mortuary.

Ghanaian Woman Gives Birth to Her Third Set of Twins in Five Years

A Ghanaian woman living in the UK with her husband has astounded nurses and upset odds of 500,000 to one by giving birth to her third consecutive set of twins.

Abigail Adama, 30, gave birth at Bradford Royal Infirmary to the baby girls, who as yet have not been named. She and her husband Shaibu Abu-Adama, who moved to Bradford from Ghana in 2013, have a pair of four-year-olds and a pair of 18-month-old twins. Their oldest twins are brother and sister, Ohene and Ohenewa, and their second twins are Okese and Nana-Oye.

Mrs Adama and her husband Shaibu Abu-Adama, also 30, of Sutton Road, Tyersal, said they were astounded when they found out they were expecting another set of twins.

Rapper Meek Mill won’t have to spend the next year in jail because a Philly judge has ruled the Twitter fingered MC can serve his time on arrest according to TMZ reports:

A Philadelphia judge gave Meek 6 to 12 months in county jail … BUT … he will be allowed to serve the time on house arrest. He will do a minimum of 90 days, and won’t be able to do his regular job — rapping and performing … he can only do charitable work for the community.

Bill Cosby will face trial in his sexual assault case because the judge just rejected his request for a dismissal.

Embattled former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, has been rearrested in the United Kingdom after he was earlier freed from a London prison.

Ibori, who bagged a 13-year jail term in April 2012 by a Southwark Crown court in London, was reportedly released by prison authorities on January 22.

A source told PM News, that Ibori’s current whereabouts remain unknown.

Doctors have successfully separated conjoined twin sisters fused at the liver and chest - the smallest pair ever to survive surgery.

Five surgeons, assisted by two nurses and six anaesthesiologists, carried out the successful, five-hour operation to separate the tiny identical twins at a hospital in Bern, Switzerland.
