Mob Beat Supected Boko Haram Member in Lagos, Nigeria

A suspected Boko Haram member, Musbau Ishola, escaped death on Monday in the Mile Two area of Lagos State as he was almost lynched by an angry mob.

The PUNCH learnt that the suspect, identified as Ishola, who wore a turban on a military cap, also had a long beard.

Acting on suspicion, an angry mob was reported to have swooped on him and beaten him up before the intervention of police operatives in the area.

A police source said, “The man had a long beard and put on a turban on a military cap. He was coming from the Oke Afa area around 5pm when people, who thought he was a member of the Boko Haram set, accosted him. They beat him to a coma.

Twenty-year-old Jumai Haruna spent the last two years in Sambisa forest, the stronghold of the extremist Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Four months ago, she was rescued by the security forces. She left the forest with a large scar from a bullet wound on her arm. 

But as she spoke to a Punch correspondent, last week, at the Internally Displaced Persons’ camp in Yola, Adamawa State.

The story that Haruna shared was a tale of rape, abuse, forced labour, torture and her forced marriage to one of the terrorists.

“I would never have married such a man but we were all forced to marry them or be killed,” she said with growing bitterness. “I lost a pregnancy for my original husband because of the condition of the place.” Haruna’s ‘original husband’ was the man she married shortly before she was captured by Boko Haram.

Nigerian Troops Recover Viagra, Other Sex Drugs From Killed Boko Haram Militants

The Nigerian Army on Friday said its troops on Thursday night ambushed and killed some fleeing Boko Haram terrorists from the Sambisa forest.

A statement issued by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said the terrorists were ambushed at their crossing point along Maiduguri-Bulabulin-Damboa road.

It quoted Mr. Usman as saying the troops recovered several items, including arms and ammunition from the terrorists who were fleeing to Alagarno general area.

“Troops of 81 Battalion and 251 Task Force Battalion, both of 25 Task Force Brigade, staged a deliberate ambush against Boko Haram logistics elements on motorcycles and bicycles.

“The elements were crossing from Sambisa forest to Alagarno general area around Nyaleri yesterday night.

Nigerian Army Arrests Husband of Rescued Chibok Schoolgirl

A suspected Boko Haram terrorist who claimed to be the husband of the rescued Chibok schoolgirl has been arrested by the Nigerian Army.

In a statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman,
Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the suspected Boko Haram terrorist identified as Mohammed Hayatu, has been taken to the headquarters of the 25 Task Foce Brigade, Damboa along with the rescued Chibok schoolgirl, now identified as Amina Ali.

The statement read:

”Please recall that we informed you that one of the abducted Chibok
schoolgirls has been rescued earlier today and promised to give
further details.

”Further to that, in continuation of Operation CRACKDOWN, troops of 25
Brigade Damboa in conjunction with Civilian JTF deployed in one of the
blocking positions at Baale, near Damboa rescued one Miss Amina Ali
and a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to
be her husband.

Nigerian Army Discovers Large Cache of Stored Boko Haram Weapons in Borno, Nigeria

The Nigerian Army yesterday disclosed that it has recovered a large cache of arms buried at a spot made to look like a graveyard in Borno state. At a press briefing Biu, Borno state, ‎the theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Leo Irabor, said the cache of high calibre ammunition, worth over N20 million was discovered by vigilant troops three days ago.

“We conducted some various scale of operation as well as specific operations that led to the recovery of arms cache in the village called Gursum, around Alagarno general area; and there we had a very sterling discovery of Boko Haram terrorists burying large quantities of ammunition on the ground. This operation was in conjunction with the Civilian JTF because they led us through the routes.

Boko Haram Releases New Video of Chibok Girls

Video has surfaced showing at least 15 of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants two years ago pleading for their freedom.

The young women were recorded to provide 'proof of life' in a clip sent to negotiators by their captors.

The video obtained by CNN is believed to have been made in December and is being used as collateral in discussions between the Federal government and the extremist cell.

Strapped with a booby-trapped vest and sent by Boko Haram to kill as many people as possible, the young teenage girl tore off the explosives and fled as soon as she was out of sight of her handlers.

Her two companions, however, completed their grisly mission and walked into a crowd of hundreds at Dikwa refugee camp in northeast Nigeria and blew themselves up, killing 58 people.

Later found by local self-defense forces, the girl's tearful account is one of the first indications that at least some of the child bombers used by Boko Haram are aware that they are about to die and kill others.

Nigeria Police Arrest Boko Haram Member Who Calls Himself the 'Chief Butcher' of Balmo Forest

Police detectives attached to Bauchi State Police Command have arrested one Mohammed Zakari, a top operative of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in Balmo Forest.

Zakari, 30, who identified himself as the “chief butcher” of Boko Haram, was apprehended last Saturday along Darazo-Basrika Road while fleeing from the intensive counter-insurgency operations going on around the Forest.

Video: Boko Haram Leader Shekau Mocks #BringBackOurGirls Campaign

Some are calling it a kind of ‘thumbing of the nose’ to Nigerian leaders and to the Nigerian People. But that seems the motive in the latest ‘non-legal’ attack by a group keeping the Nigerian society on edge.

The leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, has vowed not to release more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls in his group's captivity, according to a report in the Abuja-based PREMIUM TIMES. According to the newspaper, Shekau is saying the sect will only accede to the #BringBackOurGirls campaign after the release of Boko Haram militants held by the Nigerian government.

Mr. Shekau made the demand in a new video published Sunday, where the Islamist leader restated a position he had maintained since the abduction of the girls by Boko Haram militants April 14.

Activist Malala Yousafzai Meets President Goodluck Jonathan

Pakistani child rights activist, Malala Yousafzat, has finally met with President Goodluck Jonathan. And according to reports, one of the outcomes of her meeting with the President is that finally, he will be visiting the parents of the Chibok girls who are passing through horrifying experience following the abduction of their children over three months ago by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Malala, who has been in Nigeria to join her voice in the condemnation of the abduction of  the Nigerian girls, as part of activities to mark her seventeen birthday, said she was hopeful that the girls would be released soon as promised by the President. Adding that President Jonathan had also promised that once the missing girls were rescued, they would be given scholarships to go to school in any part of Nigeria.

Boko Haram has reportedly released a new video claiming their responsibilty for a recent explosion attack in Lagos and the attack at a super market in Abuja.

In a video obtained by AFP, Shekau said “I ordered (the bomber) who went and detonated it,” on the Lagos explosion which occurred in June 22nd, while also claiming responsibility for the bombing in Abuja which killed at least 22 people.

Activist Malala Yousafzai has Arrived Abuja To Campaign For Chibok Girls

Malala Yousafzai has arrived Nigeria to campaign for the release of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram. The 17 year old girls’ education campaigner, arrived Abuja early sunday morning, saying, “We must not be silent”. She is expected to meet with families of the abducted school girls and with President Goodluck Jonathan to pressure the government to ensure the safe release of the school girls.

A man who described himself as a teacher/scholar inside the Boko Haram camp spoke anonymously with Tobi Oladipo of BBC World radio service where he stated that it's only the release of their imprisoned members by the Federal Government that can make them release the over 200 Chibok girls they abducted on April 14th at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok. 

"Yes we want the Nigerian government to release our members. As our leader Abubakar Shekau promised to the media, if today the government releases our members, tomorrow or the next day we promise you can see all of them (the girls) sure. We would release themtomorrow or the next day." he told BBC World Radio. 

Boko Haram Recaptures 45 Out of The 63 Women Who Escaped in Borno

Forty Five out of the 63 women and children who escaped being abducted by Boko Haram insurgents at Damboa and Chibok villages in Borno State; have been recaptured by the Islamic terror group, after attacking military and police formations in Damboa last Friday night. Sources said that those escaped from the gunmen were 18, leaving 45 abductees in the hands of insurgents.

Scores of the Boko Haram insurgents and 17 soldiers and several policemen died during the attack to re-capture the women and children.

Speaking of the recapture of the victims in a telephone interview yesterday in Maiduguri, Abass Gava, a member of Chibok Vigilante Group said that 63 women and children who initially escaped during the clashes between the military and Boko Haram had been recaptured, while attempting to flee from the camps where they were held in their respective villages.

Nigerian Troops Clear Terrorists Bases in Balmo Forest

Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend.  Prior to the operation, terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks used Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest.

Terrorists and armed gangs operating in the forests were completely rooted out while some were captured during the operation.  Among those captured were two foreigners who are suspected to be mercenaries.    Also captured are several weapons and equipment including power generating sets, communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, foodstuff and kitchen utensils.

More than 60 Women, Girls Escape Boko Haram Abductors in Nigeria

More than 60 women and girls abducted last month by suspected Boko Haram militants in northeast Nigeria have escaped their captors, AFP sources said Sunday.

Local vigilante Abbas Gava said he had "received an alert from my colleagues ... that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home" late Friday. A high-level security source in the Borno state capital Maiduguri, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the escape.

Gava, a senior official of the local vigilantes in Borno State who are working closely with security officials, told journalists the women escaped when their captors went out to fight.

Nigerian Troops Arrest Three Female Undercover Operatives of Boko Haram

Nigeria Defence headquarters said on Friday 4 July that in the aftermath of the failed suicide bombing attempt on a military facility by a female terrorist who blew herself up in Gombe recently, troops have arrested three suspected female terrorists who have been secretly recruiting ladies into the female wing of the terrorists group.

In a statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade, the suspects were identified as Hafsat Usman Bako, Zainab Idris and Aisha Abubakar.
The Defence Headquarters said the three were intercepted while travelling to Madagali from where they were to transit to the forest to reunite with their cohorts.

According to Defence Headquarters, investigations revealed that the suspects, led by Hafsat Bako, have the mission to recruit members into the female wing as well as conduct espionage for the group.

Joke Silva urge Nigerians to join fight against Boko Haram

Renowned Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has called on Nigerians to join in the fight against terrorism in the country.

Silva made the call at a Freedom Walk in Lagos organised in solidarity with the secondary school girls who were abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno on April 14.

 “What this is, is a call for each and every single Nigerian to understand that it is not only the leadership that is in-charge of our nation, the followership as well.

“A community fails when its members keep quiet in the face of tyranny,“ she stated.
