Lagos Light Rail Will Be Functional By December - Govt. Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday restated his administration’s commitment to ensure that the Blue Line of the Light Rail Project is up and running by December 2016.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the 5^th Lagos Corporate Assembly, a forum for public-private sector engagement held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Ikeja, while responding to questions from captains of industries and members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS), debunked claims that work had stopped on the first phase of the project connecting Mile 2 to CMS, saying the allegation was totally untrue.

“The truth is, you might not see the contractors but they are actually working on the waters for now and by December this year, the project will start running. So, work is seriously ongoing,” Governor Ambode assured.

Train Crushes Deaf And Dumb Graduate To Death in Lagos, Nigeria

A deaf and dumb graduate, identified only as Ibrahim, has been killed by a train in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ibrahim was walking along the track around 2pm on Tuesday when a train that just took off from the Iddo station crushed him to death.

Residents said efforts to save the victim were abortive as he did not respond to alerts until it was too late.His body was said to have been cut into two, while his arms and legs were chopped off.

When our correspondent got to the scene around 3pm, blood still dotted the spot where he was killed.

Teen Dies Saving Girlfriend In Train Accident

According to SF Gate: A Northern California town was reeling Saturday after learning that a teenage boy was killed and a teenage girl was seriously injured after they were hit by a freight train while walking to a Sadie Hawkins Day dance. The accident Friday evening occurred near Marysville’s only high school and a little league park where a game was being played. Investigators told KCRA-TV the teens were walking southbound on the tracks — the same direction as the train.

Relatives told the station the 16-year-old girl, Mickayla Friend, and her boyfriend had planned to take a short walk to the Dollar Tree store to buy some food before heading to the dance at their school. “It’s her first boyfriend, and her first love,” Alithya Friend said. “And she just got it taken away from her in an instant.”

Spanish driver whose derailed train killed at least 80 people while travelling at 120mph in 50mph zone posted boasting Facebook photo of speedometer

A driver of the Spanish train, which hurtled off the tracks and smashed into a wall, killing at least 80 people, previously boasted of speeding on his Facebook page.

Francisco Jose Garzon, one of the drivers on the train which crashed, leaving up to 141 people injured including one Briton, is reported to have posted a picture on the site of a train speedometer at 125mph last year. According to reports he also boasted about how fast he was going. The webpage has disappeared after images appeared on Spanish TV and newspaper websites.

The Supreme Court of the Galicia region, which did not say which driver was being questioned, said: 'The judge has ordered the police to take a statement from the driver, currently under formal investigation, in the hospital where he is being held in custody.'
