Customs Officers Beat Lagos Magistrate for Impounding Thier Vehicles

On Friday, some officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, allegedly attacked a magistrate, Lekan Aka-Bashorun, for impounding their vehicles.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the customs officers allegedly slapped Aka-Bashorun, while two policemen and two paramilitary officials attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, were also beaten up.

It was gathered that court exhibits and recording gadgets were also allegedly damaged by the customs officials, who reportedly claimed that their vehicles could not be impounded by  the Lagos State Mobile Court.

PUNCH Metro learnt that on Friday around 1pm, the task force officials with the mobile court went to Allen Avenue, Ikeja, to impound vehicles caught violating traffic laws.

Lagos Light Rail Will Be Functional By December - Govt. Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday restated his administration’s commitment to ensure that the Blue Line of the Light Rail Project is up and running by December 2016.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the 5th Lagos Corporate Assembly, a forum for public-private sector engagement held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Ikeja, while responding to questions from captains of industries and members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS), debunked claims that work had stopped on the first phase of the project connecting Mile 2 to CMS, saying the allegation was totally untrue.

“The truth is, you might not see the contractors but they are actually working on the waters for now and by December this year, the project will start running. So, work is seriously ongoing,” Governor Ambode assured.

FUJI STAR PASUMA WONDER TO CELEBRATE 20 YEARS AS A RECORDING ARTISTE

Fuji star Odetola Wasiu Alabi Popularly known as Pasuma Wonder is without doubt one of the finest musicians in the Nigeria Music industry. The Kwara state born singer will on October 20 2013 be celebrating 20 years as a recording artiste. The event, which is being put together by his management company AO21 Media, will hold at Anchor Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos. Besides the fact that the 46 years old singer will be celebrating his 20th anniversary as a recording artiste he will also be launching a compilation CD, which is a medley of hit tracks from all his albums “I am excited about this event and I look forward to a wonderful moment with my fans friends and colleagues. It’s been 29 years since I became a professional singer but I didn’t record my first album till 1993. I started my career in 1984 and recorded Recognition, my first album in 1993. So it’s been 20 years since I have been recording albums and I thank God for his mercy. I have also put together a compilation CD, which will be launched and released on that day. The compilation CD consists of hit tracks from my entire album” he says.

Seven-Year-Old lHelp Police Smash Lagos kidnap Syndicate


A university graduate and two other suspects were paraded by the Lagos State Police Command, following their arrest, by a tip off from a seven-year-old victim. The graduate of Economics of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Gbenga Sholaja; Olalekan Benjamin and Samson Shomorin, who specialise in kidnapping little boys, were arrested by men of the Igando Police Division and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos.
The child, who was later released after ransom was paid by his parents, was said to have memorised the house address where he was kept. It was the child who led police officers to the same house where Benjamin was arrested.

Popular Alade market razed by fire


The popular Alade market at Allen Junction in Ikeja, Lagos was on Sunday evening gutted by fire, the National
Emergency Management Agency has said.
Although, details of the incident are still sketchy, sources said the fire which started around 7 pm was caused by power surge and was extensive.
However, NEMA did not say what caused the fire and the extent of damage, but stated that nine shops were affected, while the timely arrival of rescue agencies saved the market from being completely razed down.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Inducts Celebrity Special Marshals


The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Friday, March 8, 2013, inducted some public figures as Celebrity Special Marshal. The Corps inducted a total of 51 celebrities drawn from media, Nollywood, music, fashion and other professions.

They were inducted at a ceremony held in Ikeja, Lagos.

Some of the new Celebrity Special Marshals of the FRSC are Oge Okoye, Halima Abubakar, Weird MC, Jaywon, Frank Oshodi, Steve Ayorinde, Mr Raw, Tony Okoroji.

Others are Queen Ure, Emeka Rollas, Jide Alabi, Loye Amzat, ID Ogungbe, Azuh Amatus, fidelis duker, Ayo Makinde, Yemi Sodimu amongst others.

They were implored to be of good character as they represent the Corps as ambassadors.
