I Want The Nigerian Promise Fulfilled Before I Die - Babatunde Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, minister of works, power and housing, says he wants to witness the fulfillment of the Nigerian promise before he dies, and this thought keeps him awake.

Fashola lamented that Nigeria is currently bedevilled by a number of challenges, but he vowed to do his best in tackling them.

“I’m a thinking person and I’m always looking for solutions to solutions. When I’ve found one solution, I’m not always convinced that it’s the best solution, so even when I’m implementing it, I’m looking for ways to make it better,” he told Channels Television in an interview aired on Monday.

“Generally, the promise of this country keeps me awake. I know that it is a country of so much promise; I want to see some of those promises before I die. I want to see sustainable, reliable electricity; I want to see more people get access to electricity.

Nigerian Government Requires N2trn to Complete Ongoing Road Projects - Babatunde Fashola

According to Nigeria's Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, the Federal Government will require about N2 trillion to complete no new fewer than 226 ongoing road projects across the country.

Fashola made this disclosure in Lagos while speaking at a Town Hall meeting organized to brief the public on the activities of the government in the last 11 months. 

According to him, the total amount allocated to all the sectors under his ministry in the 2016 budget was less than N500billion and the government does not currently have enough resources to complete all the ongoing projects at present. Hence, some of the projects would be completed rather than for new ones to be started. He said,

Lagos Light Rail Will Be Functional By December - Govt. Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday restated his administration’s commitment to ensure that the Blue Line of the Light Rail Project is up and running by December 2016.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the 5^th Lagos Corporate Assembly, a forum for public-private sector engagement held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Ikeja, while responding to questions from captains of industries and members of the Organised Private Sector (OPS), debunked claims that work had stopped on the first phase of the project connecting Mile 2 to CMS, saying the allegation was totally untrue.

“The truth is, you might not see the contractors but they are actually working on the waters for now and by December this year, the project will start running. So, work is seriously ongoing,” Governor Ambode assured.

Federal Government Pledges Not To Revoke Any Inherited Contracts - Fashola

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola on behalf of the Federal government at the opening ceremony of a 3-day Nigerian Pension Industry Strategy Implementation Roadmap Retreat, said that  the government has pledged not to revoke any inherited contracts.

He added that the usual habit of reversing projects of previous government was wrong and not n the best interest of Nigerians.
He said:

“Newly formed governments begin a review of all contracts signed by their predecessors, cancel or frustrate them even when they are performing. What I am saying is that contracts cannot be terminated or frustrated on trumped up reasons simply because a new government does not like the affiliation of the holder of the contract,”.

According to Silverbird group, “Gov. Obi has embarked on integrated development of his state, with a holistic approach developing all sectors simultaneously. He has brought his private sector experience to bear on the development process in Anambra.”

Fashola Signs No Smoking Bill Into Law in Lagos State

Governor Babatunde Fashola has signed the No Smoking in Public Places Bill into law. It means it is now illegal to lit your cigarettes in public places e.g public toilets, museums, nurseries, any facility used for the care of children etc. According to the law, people who smoke in public places will risk a 3-year jail term. Owners of establishments must also put a 'No Smoking' sign around their property or face 6 months imprisonment or N100,000 fine.
Corporate organizations that don't place the ‘No Smoking’ sign within its premises, would be liable to N250, 000 fine.
The best part is, anyone who smokes in the presence of a child shall be liable on conviction to a fine of N15, 000 or 1 month imprisonment.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Tuesday received in audience the Founder of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, at Lagos House, Alausa Ikeja, advocating that victims of Wild Polio virus be drafted to lead the current campaign to eradicate the disease.

Bill Gates, who came on a courtesy visit to the Governor alongside Nigeria’s billionaire business magnate and Founder of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is also a great philanthropist who has been donating large sums of money to charity across the world, through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, especially towards the eradication of Wild Polio virus across Africa and Asia.

Governor Fashola Agrees To Pay Pa Kasunmu's Medical Bill

Information reaching me suggest that veteran actor, Kayode Dosumu, otherwise called Pa Kasunmu Much needed money for medical treatment has come alive. News  indicates that the governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Rajo Fashola has reportedly agreed to foot his total medical bill [N12million]. 

Pa Kasunmu, some days ago, asked Nigerians to help him raise N12million for his medical treatment of kidney and liver ailments.

‘Deportation Of 70’: Fashola Offers Full Response To Obi

Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola has offered a more detailed response to his Anambra State counterpart, Peter Obi as controversy raged over the sending home of some indigenes of Anambra. It was his second response in 24 hours. Fashola first corrected the exaggerated number of the people involved. He said they were 14 and not 70 or 72 as being circulated.

Fashola said the 14 people were picked up on the steets of Lagos “as part of a continuous exercise to assist vulnerable citizens who roam our streets without food or shelter and a number who have medical ailments, usually in the nature of mental infirmity”.

For those who may be thinking that the decision to send the 14 people home was the sole invention of Lagos State Government, Governor Fashola also included a letter from the Akwa Ibom Government to Lagos Ministry of Women Affairs, repatriating two indigenes of Lagos, who were picked up on the streets of Uyo. Read the full response here:

Teacher Arraigned For ‘Impersonating’ Lagos State Governor’s Wife “Dame Abimbola Fashola”

A 53- year-old teacher on Grade Level 10, Asogbon Victoria Abosede, was Thursday, arraigned before Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court One, sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly impersonating the first lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola.

The defendant was said to have sent text messages between June and July to the Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos by falsely presenting herself as first lady of Lagos State and obtained N100, 000 from the chairman.

The defendant who is facing a 10-count charge of impersonation and fraud, preferred against her by the Lagos State government, was docked before Chief Magistrate Eniola Fabamwo.

The Lights Come On: On Ikorodu Road

Babatunde Fashola, Governor of Lagos State has lit up Ikorodu Road for safe driving at night.

This is coming as the governor marked 2100 days in Office.

The lit up area covers seven kilometers of the road from Jibowu Flyover to Maryland underpass.
