Doctors Successfully Separate Conjoined Twins in Bern, Switzerland

Doctors have successfully separated conjoined twin sisters fused at the liver and chest - the smallest pair ever to survive surgery.

Five surgeons, assisted by two nurses and six anaesthesiologists, carried out the successful, five-hour operation to separate the tiny identical twins at a hospital in Bern, Switzerland.

Maya and Lydia were born two months prematurely along with their triplet sister Kamilla in December.

They were initially stable and doctors at Inselspital hospital, Bern, had planned to allow them to settle after birth and separate them after a few months.

But after a week, their situation deteriorated dramatically: one suffering from hypertension and the other suffering from the opposite condition, known as hypotension.

Co-Pilot Who Hijacked Plane, Arrested In Geneva

The co-pilot of a hijacked plane has been arrested in Switzerland after taking control while the pilot went to the toilet. The suspect, an Ethiopian man born in 1983, locked himself in the cockpit before landing the plane in Geneva.

After leaving the aircraft through a window using a rope, he then surrendered to police asking for asylum in Switzerland.

There were no injuries to the 202 passengers or crew.

Flight ET702 was on its way from Addis Ababa and was scheduled to arrive in Rome at 4.40am. Instead it landed in Switzerland at 6am local time.

Geneva airport chief executive Robert Deillon told reporters the suspect "wanted asylum in Switzerland" and "that's the motivation of the hijacking".

Robbers breach gate, steal $50 million in diamonds at Belgian airport

Eight masked thieves stole $50 million in rough and polished diamonds in a lightning-fast heist Monday at Brussels Airport, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre said Tuesday.

The stones were en route from Antwerp, Belgium, to Zurich, Switzerland, a spokesman for the diamond center said, citing police.

Police told the diamond center that the robbers, who used two vehicles, breached a security gate when the goods were already on an aircraft.

Jan Van der Cruysse, a spokesman for Brussels Airport, SAID that it took the thieves only three minutes to rob the cargo hold and that they left the scene minutes later.
