Giant Nigeria Snails Seized & Destroyed At Los Angeles Airport

A shipment of several dozen live giant Nigerian snails, weighing some 2lb (0.9kg) each, has been seized by officials at Los Angeles International Airport.

The 67 snails, measuring about six inches (15cm) in length, arrived from Lagos, Nigeria, in two plastic baskets with paperwork describing them as being for human consumption, custom inspectors said.

The snails are considered a delicacy in Nigeria but are also voracious pests that eat not just plants, but paint and stucco off houses.

It was the largest such shipment ever seized at LAX, the US Customs and Border Protection agency said.

American Hustle Wins Top Honour At SAG Awards 2014

The cast of American Hustle have taken the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, setting up the film as the one to beat at the Oscars.

The con-artist comedy from director David O Russell won the award for outstanding cast, although it won no individual acting awards and only Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for her supporting role.

Bradley Cooper accepted the award on behalf of the cast, and praised the director with whom they have all worked previously.

"He is an actor's director," said Cooper. "That notion is tossed around; he is the embodiment of it. He's the reason why all of us wanted to become actors when we were children."

The couple touched down in New York following their trip to Brazil, only to find themselves at the center of a TSA investigation because an airline greeter rushed them past a checkpoint in order to speed up their boarding process.

Once Kardashian and West took their seats on a flight bound for Los Angeles, they were pulled off and forced to go through security again, delaying the flight about an hour.
