Young People Are Sharing Less And Less Information On Facebook

We all know someone who shares every last detail of their lives on Facebook or Twitter.
But a new report says they could become the exception to the rule, as young people are getting more and more worried about privacy.
According to the Market Research Society (MRS), many are un-tagging pictures, writing false posts and even taking on parallel identities to keep their personal information safe.
The Sunday Times reports that Colin Strong, of the MRS Delphi Society, said the rise of apps like Snapchat, which automatically erases photos after a short period of time, shows teens are more worried about what they put online.

He cited the example of Paris Brown, who resigned as the county’s first youth police crime commissioner in 2013 after a series of tweets she had posted years before emerged.
He said: ‘Just because it’s in a public space doesn’t mean they want publicity.’
It represents a slap in the face to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who said people sharing everything about themselves has become a ‘social norm’.

Back in 2010 he said: ‘People have really gotten comfortable not sharing information of different kinds, but more openly and with more people. That social norm has just evolved over time.’
