Dependence on Oil, Nigeria’s Costly Mistake - President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria made a costly mistake by depending on oil as the mainstay of the economy.
The President said the country was in for the worst times for failing to save or diversify its economy, which had been greatly affected by the crash of oil prices.
Speaking while bidding the outgoing Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Saeed Koozechi, farewell in Abuja, President Buhari said he was convinced that with greater diligence, hard work and patriotic determination, Nigeria would achieve self-sufficiency in most of the goods on its import list.

House of Representatives in Commotion Over Oil Subsidy Removal As Members Chant "All We Are Saying, Save Nigeria!"

The House of Representatives chambers was in chaos as members, split along party lines, are debating the new deregulation of the oil sector and the removal of oil subsidy that has led to the increase of the pump price of petrol from N86.50 to N145 per liter.

PDP lawmakers are said to be angry with their APC counterparts for staging Occupy Nigeria protest in 2012 when the Goodluck Jonathan led government attempted to remove the oil subsidy.
The lawmakers are expecting the Minister of state for Petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu, who they have summoned to appear before them to explain the reason behind the recent removal of oil subsidy.

Femi Gbajabiamila, leader of the house, had moved the motion for the lower legislative chamber to admit Kachikwu into its fold.
