Woman Sells Her Day-Old Daughter for N20,000 in Bayelsa State

A commercial sex worker in Bayelsa State, weekend, gave birth to a baby girl and sold the child for N20,000 at the Ovom suburb of Yenagoa.

According to a Police source, the child, a day old, was sold to a family in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

It was learnt that the commercial sex worker operates around the popular red light zone of Ovom along the D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha area, in the state capital.

Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, when contacted, confirmed the incident, saying investigation into the incident traced the family involved in the unholy sale to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Akhigbe said: “Though the details of the investigation are sketchy, the special unit of the police is on its way to effect the recovery of the baby and arrest the family that bought the child.”

65-Year Old Man Arrested For Raping 15-Year Old Boy In Nigeria

A man was arrested and charged with sodomy after he was caught red handed sleeping with a 15-year-old boy, police in Nigeria said.

Bayelsa State Police said that they have arrested and charged 65-year-old Uchenna Ignatius after he was accused of raping the boy over a long period.

The defendant, who is a commercial driver, reportedly had been having sexual intercourse with the child since 2012. He also threatened to kill him if he told anyone about their affair.

The abuse first began when the boy came home from school. The defendant persuaded the boy to go with him to his home. The defendant also deceived the child by telling him that he was a relative of his mother.

Man Who Planned Sister’s Kidnap Still On The Run As Police Parade Other Gang Members

Police in Bayelsa State have paraded 6 kidnappers who robbed the home of a woman known as Mrs. Ebitimi Salvation and also abducted her after the robbery. According to the Police, Mrs. Ebitimi’s brother planned her kidnap and also robbed her husband of N500, 000 during the operation.

Luck however ran out on them, as the boat they were using to convey their victim to an unknown destination suddenly developed a fault and stopped working.

The marine police, who sighted them, swooped and arrested them along the Southern Ijaw waterways as they made to escape.

It was said that, Mrs Ebitimi’s brother, Bright wore a mask all through the operation and escaped arrest. The police are however still looking for him.

Anna Ebiere Banner (Miss Bayelsa) Wins Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria, #MBGN 2013


Anna Ebiere Banner representing Bayelsa State has crown The 26th Edition of The Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria [MBGN] beauty pageant and has been appointed Special Adviser on Tourism & Culture to Bayelsa Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson. The governor himself got on stage after she won the crown last night and made her his new special adviser. She will represent Nigeria at the Miss World pageant later this year.
The top 5 finalists along with Anna Ebiere (Miss Bayelsa) were Miss Imo (Stephanie Okwu), Miss Adamawa (Powede Lawrence), Miss Kaduna (Enoma Agboniko) & Miss Abuja (Melissa Devidal). The first runner up, Miss Imo (Stephanie Okwu) will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant.

EFCC Arrests Former Bayelsa Governor; Timipre Sylva


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday arrested the former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva.

A statement signed by EFCC’s Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the former governor was “picked up at his Abuja home, at No. 3, Niger Street, Maitama” by the EFCC officials who stormed the former governor’s home at about 10.00 am.
According to the statement, the embattled governor was discovered in the house where he was “hiding in a dingy corner in the upper chamber of his expansive mansion.”
“On arrival at the facility at about 10.00 am, the Commission’s operatives were told that the ex-governor was not in town but they insisted on conducting a search on the house having obtained a warrant from the court.”

Niger Delta ex-militants riot in Bayelsa



Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital was thrown into pandemonium as residents ran for cover when about 400 former militants protested the allocation of training slots to them.

A car parked along Otiotio road was razed and the windscreens of no fewer than 12 cars were smashed.

Shops were randomly looted on this road and Mbiama-Yenagoa at Yenezuegene axis of the state capital.

This forced panicky shop owners the area hurriedly close their business premises. The panic caused a traffic gridlock, with many owners of vehicles caught up in the melee, abandoned them right on the road.
