Nollywood Actress Chika Ike Opens Up

Nollywood Actress Chika Ike was Once upon a time nominated in the Scandal Free category of the Best of Nollywood award. Back then, the actress was seen as one with talents, good looks and of course, no scandal.

Chika still has her good looks and talents, but the trait of ‘scandal free’ died almost as soon as she was seen as one. Today, she has got enough scandals to last her a life time.

Apart from her young marriage crashing and her estranged hubby allegedly putting her house help in the family way, it was rumoured that Ike also left her home because her ex was beating her black and blue.

Unending Saga Of Divorces In Nollywood (Nigeria)

If marriages are meant to be celebrated then what happens to divorces? In the last couple of weeks what has been pouring out of Nollywood are stories of divorce. If there are any marriages, they are not hot enough to make good news. Okay, there are enough movies making their rounds of the cinemas and maybe some endorsement deals are being pulled off but aren’t they a bit of backstage stuff to take the shine out of these divorces?

With recent divorce of Nollywood superstar actress, Funke Akindele, it is no longer news that most marriages involving top Nollywood actresses hit the rocks just as soon as the oaths were taken. Maybe Funke’s drama with husband of barely one year tops the list, given the glamour that accompanied the solemnisation  of their matrimony and the manner in which the separation was served to the public.

Growing Failures of Marriages in Nollywood

In some parts of the world, Africa in particular, Nigerian movies reign supreme, and the actors are semi-gods. With their repertoire of popular movies, they have undoubtedly mended cracks in the union of some viewers, but then, many of their own marriages have been characterised by heartbreaks, separations and divorces.

They have made their way into the hearts of millions of people, who dream to be like them. But either at home or abroad, there is one thing none of their fans will pray for —failed marriages and heartbreaks.

This development seems to be more rampant among the movie stars. While some of them have remained eligible spinsters/bachelors, those that managed to walk down the aisle barely sustain the momentum. The list of movie stars with failed marriages is endless, and with the recent decision of actress Laide Bakare to walk out of her marriage to Mr. Okunfulire, the last has not been heard.
