Zoo In The Gaza Strip Has Started Mummifying Its Animals When They Die

This is Khan Younis zoo.... Situated in the south-western part of the Gaza strip, the zoo has seen dozens of its animals and birds die from neglect and starvation during the Israel-Palestine conflict.
And graphic images show the shocking state of the zoo and the animals, some of which have been stuffed and mummified and others kept in makeshift cages made out of material salvaged from Israeli settlements that were dismantled during the disengagement in 2005.
‘The idea to mummify animals started after the Gaza war because a number of animals like the lion, the tiger, monkeys and crocodiles died,’ said the zoo’s owner, Mohammed Owaida...... See more pictures after the cut...

‘So we asked around and we learned from the Web how to start.’
Fighting in the region has prevented Mr Owaida from reaching the zoo at times, leading many animals to die, he said.
