Economic Downturn Halts Northern Nigeria Mass Weddings, As 10,000 Women Register to Wed

Low global oil prices have hurt Nigeria’s economy, taking it to the brink of recession. But the resulting cash crunch has also had a more unexpected effect – on mass weddings.
More than 10, 000 women have registered for the state-sponsored programme in Kano, said Abba Sufi, director-general of the northern city’s “morality police”, the Hisbah.
“At the moment we have over 10,000 women who have registered for the mass wedding programme and are waiting to be introduced to prospective suitors when the project resumes,” he told AFP.

Doctor Rapes Woman During Abortion

A doctor allegedly raped a woman during an abortion procedure two weeks after he masturbated in front of her during a physical examination, a court has heard.
According to Tribune 242, after Dr. Gerald Mark Forbes informed the 20-year-old she would need a medical examination to work at his clinic in Freeport, the Bahamas, last February, he was alleged to have rubbed her vagina and masturbated before her.
The report added that two week’s later, after the victim asked him to terminate a pregnancy, he was accused of raping her during the procedure.
The 47-year-old is also said to have given the alleged victim a packet of Methotrexate, a drug used to induce abortions.

20 Year Old Woman Gives Birth to 3 Sets of Twins in 26 Months

 A 20 year old Kansas woman has given birth to three set of twins in a little over two years, with the latest born last month.

“People just consider me a freak of nature when I tell them,” said the 20-year-old mom, who apparently has a condition in which she releases more than one egg per month.

Couch delivered two boys 26 months ago but one of them died from complications of premature birth. Fourteen months later, twin girls Delilah and Davina, were born. The third set, Dalanie and Darla, both girls, were born last month. They came home after three weeks in neonatal intensive care.....

Niger Delta Avengers’ Logistics Supplier Arrested

The Nigerian Navy said it had arrested a suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers.
This is contained in a statement signed by its Director of Information, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to Ezekobe, the suspect who was picked up on July 11 at about 11am, is believed to be a major logistics supplier to the group which had claimed responsibility for attacks on NNPC and Chevron pipelines in the region.

Le Guen’s Rejection: Resign Now, Abba Yola Tells NFF Technical Committee

The volte face by the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation over the hiring of Frenchman, Paul Le Guen as Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles has been described as a huge embarrassment to the entire country which calls for the resignation of the members of the committee.

A former director with the defunct National Sports Commission and Ciroman Yola, Mallam Abba Yola, who was furious yesterday over the handling of the coaching issue, wondered why the NFF would go ahead to announce the appointment of Le Guen as technical adviser when they had not concluded on terms with him. 

“If Barrister (Chris) Green doesn’t know the implications of going public on a half done job, how could Paul Bassey come short of short-changing Nigerians on an issue which the entire Nation is interested in. Why the hurry in making the announcement,” he queried. 

Family Feeds Dog With Day Old Baby

The Kastina State Police Command is holding a family of five in its custody for allegedly feeding a day-old baby boy to a dog as meal.
The incident happened at Saika village in Batsari Local Government Area.
The suspects include 15-year-old Wosila Halilu, her three stepbrothers and her mother.

It was alleged that Wosila, who is the mother of the baby, got pregnant after she was raped by a 27 year-old farmer, Musa Garba. She alleged that the farmer lured her into his farm where he committed the act.
