A MAN who had a lucky escape when he blacked out behind the wheel and slammed into a pole filmed the incredible moment firefighters cut him free.
Andrew MacDonald had to spend a month in hospital after the horror car smash, but will always have a memento of the event.
He caught the moment crews worked quickly to rescue him from his smashed up car on January 11 on camera.
The footage shows the Jaws of Life hydraulic tool used to cut cars working right behind his head.
Andrew said: "I blacked out behind the wheel at 5.30am after a night in Victoria, British Columbia.
"Drove straight into a pole on the drivers side."
In the video he posted to YouTube, Andrew can be heard telling a paramedic: "I'm getting a lot of feeling in my legs now and it's f****** sore."
He later says: "I just want to go to sleep now," to which the medic replies: "Not yet."
Andrew was driving at 60kph – just over 37mph – in the Canadian city and had to have major surgery lasting 14 hours over two days to treat his many injuries.
"Suffered a broken right arm. Broken left Femur. Broke both knee caps and both ankles.
"Metal plates and screws all over," he said.
After a month in hospital, the lucky survivor said: "I'm home now and recovering quickly."
