And the Oscar for Hollywood’s best party goes to…
Street artist Plastic Jesus has put up a model of a life size Oscar statuette on all fours doing lines off a red carpet.
The statuette can be seen on La Brea Avenue on Hollywood Boulevard just a stone’s throw from where the street will be closed for the Oscars on Sunday.
Photographer Nick Stern, who works with Plastic Jesus, said in astatement to LAist: ‘The piece is intended to draw attention to Hollywood’s hidden problem of drug addition that effects hundreds of people in the showbiz industry and is largely ignored until the death of a high profile A list celebrity.’
Hollywood drug addiction specialist (us neither) John Kim said: ‘Plastic Jesus is highlighting a dark vein that’s always covered with designer clothes in Tinseltown.
‘Drug use, prescription pills, and addiction continues to run rampant and take talented lives. It is swept under the red carpet because we have a need to see celebrities as being “perfect”.
‘I wonder if we started to see them as real people, would actually roll up their sleeves and show us their scars? Maybe the way in is street art? I donít know, but that door needs to be kicked open.’
The 87th Academy Awards take place on February 22, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
The likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Meryl Streep, Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore are expected to attend the ceremony, and maybe walk away with a golden trophy of their own.
