Four women are now assisting the Anambra State Police Command to unveil the mystery behind the sale of a two-month-old baby girl for N625,000 to a person living in Enugu, after being cleverly whisked from her mother at Nnewi, Anambra State.

Three of the women were arrested by the police from Ogigi Police Station, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State and were allegedly accused of selling the baby while the forth one was buying the baby.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the alleged buyer admitted buying the baby, saying that she needed the baby to look after her when she gets old.According to her,
“I have a male-child but I want a female child as female children take care of their parents more than male”
When asked whether the husband was aware of the plan to purchase the baby, she said: “he was aware and supported me and asked me to carry on”
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Ogidi Police Station, Mr Hassan Musa, told newsmen that the stolen baby had been recovered and that she is in police custody while effort is being intensified to get the real and biological mother of the baby.

He expressed satisfaction with the confessional statements of those arrested, adding that two of the women who were said to have sold the baby were based in Abatete and Onitsha and that the police had moved to Enugu to get the baby from the buyer.
Musa told newsmen that the next action is to move to Nnewi to look for the mother of the baby and concluded that it was on a tip-off that the police arrested the seller when they were waiting for the buyer to come from Enugu.
