The first man to buy legal recreational marijuana in a Washington town has claimed he was fired as a consequence of it.
Michael Kelly Boyer was the first customer at Green Leaf in Spokane when the sales became legal across Washington State.
He said that one of his employers, Labor Ready, wanted him to take and pass a drug test.
According to news reports, a client had complained after seeing him on TV coverage of the stores opening.
His test came back positive, Mr Boyer said.
Mr Boyer posted his claim and resume on Craigslist in a post titled "LOST MY JOB! still #1 tho!!"
Washington followed Colorado into legalised recreational marijuana sales.
Both states voted in November 2012 to legalise marijuana for adults over 21, and to create state-licenced systems for growing, selling and taxing the pot.
Sales began in Colorado on January 1, resulting in roughly $2m (£1.2m) in marijuana taxes in the first month.
