The US is flying "manned" intelligence missions over Nigeria to try to track down nearly 300 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram fighters.

Washington has also shared "commercial satellite imagery" with the Nigerian military in the hunt for the missing teenagers, a senior US official said.

Experts are examining a new video issued by Boko Haram claiming to show about 130 of the youngsters, who the group claims have converted to Islam.

US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: "Our intelligence experts are combing through every detail of the video for clues that might help ongoing efforts to secure the release of the girls.

Video: Angelia Jolie 'Sickened' by Nigeria kidnappings

Actress Angelina Jolie has said she is "sickened" at the kidnappings of hundreds of schoolchildren in Nigeria.

The actress has joined other high-profile celebrities and politicians to condemn the actions of the Islamic group Boko Haram.

"Like everybody, I'm absolutely sickened by it and the thought of them out there right now, terrified and being abused and sold," Jolie told French news channel i-Tele.

The 'Tomb Raider' star said the kidnappings reflected the existence of bigger problems.
"Because of a lack of impunity and because people believe they can get away with this, people will commit these kind of crimes. And not only do they believe that girls shouldn't have an education which is absolutely wrong, it is appalling, it is of course their right and the most wonderful thing, the most important thing for young girls, but that they're taken as objects and going to be so violated and if the world does nothing then they get away this, then we set this horrible precedent," the actress said.

An Indian student says she was kidnapped, tortured and repeatedly raped by a canteen owner for 17 months after he drugged her food at college. The 20-year-old disappeared from her home in Hyderabad in April, 2012, and only managed to escape this month.

News of the kidnap has sparked protests on the streets of Hyderabad and more than 15,000 people have joined an online campaign in support of the girl. Satyaprakash Singh, owner of a canteen at TRR College, has been arrested.

The case will be heard under the stricter laws of the Nirbhaya act, which was introduced this year following the gang rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi.
