Women Need More Sleep Than Men, Says Science

GUYS, it's time to start bringing in a cup of tea for your lovely lady in the mornings.
It turns out women really do need a lie-in, according to scientists.
A study which examined 210 middle aged men and women, found that women officially need more sleep than men and that a lack of sleep leads to greater health issues in women than in men.

Professor Jim Horne, director of the Sleep Research Center at Loughborough University, said: "We found that for women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depression, and anger.

"In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men."

Explaining why women need more sleep than men, he added: "This is because women's brains are wired differently from men's and are more complex, so their sleep need will be slightly greater. The average is 20 minutes more, but some women may need slightly more or less than this."
According to the professor who authored Sleepfaring: A Journey Through The Science of Sleep, women need an extra 20 minutes more in bed.
