A woman paid for her mother’s funeral by
charging men £350 a head to date her.
Marlene Cowens, 44, has been raking in a
cool £5,000 each year since she signed up to a specialist dating website. Men
pay up to £350 for just an hour or two in Ms Cowens’ company, which is at a
cinema or restaurant.
Ms Cowens, from New York, says she rarely
sleeps with her dates. Out of 90 dates, she has slept with two.
‘It’s the best of both worlds. I get a nice
night out and I get paid for it,’ she said.
The money helped Ms Cowens to pay part of
the funeral of her mother Maria, who died aged 68 last year.
‘I had to do what I had to do to make it
happen,’ Ms Cowens said.
Ms Cowen, who works as a secretary for a
construction company, is urging other women to follow her example.
The website has men and women send a ‘wink’
at each other to show interest. The men can then offer an amount of money to
take the girl out on a date. The women can also quote an amount.
‘Men are supposed to provide for and
protect their women,’ Ms Cowens said.
Women need to know their worth. They
deserve more. It’s hard out there dealing with guys who are just no good at
all.’
Ms Cowens married at 19 but separated from
her husband after a year.
She would like a divorce but hasn’t heard
from her ex-partner since the separation and has no means of contacting him.
