A statue of Bill Cosby has been removed from Walt Disney
World in Florida, following the revelation that the comedian bought drugs togive to women he wanted to have sex with.
A spokeswoman for the park confirmed to
the Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday that the bronze bust
of Cosby’s head and shoulders was being taken down.
It was removed from display after the
park closed on Tuesday night.
The decision was taken in the wake of a
petition on the change.org website calling for the statue to be
taken down.
‘The Disney name is synonymous with
family-friendly entertainment and with Mr. Cosby in the media daily facing
accusations of sexual assault with the number of victims ever climbing, it is
inappropriate for Disney Parks to have a replica of Mr. Cosby’s likeness on
display,’ the petition said.
It also follows the news of a court
deposition obtained by Associated Press, which revealed that the 77-year-old
admitted buying Quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he
wanted to have sex with.’
A court deposition obtained by
Associated Press revealed that he gave the sedative to at least one woman and
‘other people’.
The allegations were brought to light in
2005 by a former Temple University employee who said she had taken the
drug from Cosby. Another woman in the case testifies the same.
Cosby has been accused by more than two
dozen women of sexual misconduct but has never been criminally charged.
