effort to rid the state of crime and criminal activities as they have the
mercenaries and strategies to do so.
The assurance came as the command through its new strategies paraded a
lot of suspects with various criminal offences ranging from murder,
cultism, child trafficking, amongst others.
Parading the suspects on Tuesday, 16th June, 2015, at the State Police
Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Assistant Commissioner of Police, State
Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, hinted that officers and
men of the Nigeria Police Force, State Criminal Investigation Department,
have recorded major progresses in their avowed determination to safe the
lives and property of inhabitants of the State.*BOY, 19, FROM UYO, KILLED AUNT
ACP Okoli said among the suspects arrested so far by the State CID,
was one Daniel Michael Edet, 19, a student, from Idoro in Uyo Local
Government Area, who killed his aunt, one Glory Edet Ebere, 44.
“This boy (pointed to Daniel Michael Edet) used to live with her aunt,
Glory Edet Ebere and after a while, he (Daniel) left her aunt
unceremoniously to a destination no one knew about. Then, recently, 11th
June 2015, to be precise, Daniel went back to his aunt’s abode, who
eventually lived alone. Upon arrival, the 44 year old aunt was about
leaving for work, so he told the aunt that he wants to comeback, but the
woman said no, he should go back to where he stayed. Daniel then
insisted he needs money and at a point, wrestled the aunt to the floor
and stabbed her until she gave up the ghost.
“Daniel did not end there, he got the car key, locked the woman (inside
the house) and drove the woman’s vehicle off. The following day, he
(Daniel) came back to the house with his friend, one Ekemini Effiong
James (male) and dragged the corpse (of Glory Ebere) into the bedroom.
Both of them cooked, ate and passed a night in that same house”, said
ACP Mike Okoli.
The Police boss hinted that luck ran out of the duo (Daniel and his
friend, Ekemini) when they wanted to decompose the corpse, as a vigilant
neighbour accosted them which led to their arrest.
Upon investigation, the police boss said Daniel admitted to killing his aunt
alone.
According to him: “Ekemini Effiong James did not kill, but was aware
since he slept in the same room. They (Daniel and Ekemini) have also
confessed that they belong to a cult group called ‘Highlanders’, and they
would soon appear in court.
When quizzed, Daniel admitted to newsmen that he killed his aunt, saying
it was a result of his greed.
Daniel, a Nineteen year old Student of Uduak-Obong Secondary School,
Obio Ibiono, Ibiono Ibom LGA, also admitted of being a member of
‘Highlander’ Cult group.
Meanwhile, according to the Police boss, ACP Mike Okoli, the suspects
will soon appear in court.
