When Sir Elton John’s mum turned 90 she knew there was little chance of her estranged son being there to help her celebrate.
So Sheila Farebrother, who hasn’t spoken to the singer since 2008, decided to bring in a replacement for the night.
She hired tribute act Ultimate Elton (whose real name is Paul Bacon) to perform for her guests at a converted barn.
Although the famous father-of-two was missing from the action, singer Kiki Dee made it to the bash and teamed up with copycat version Paul on stage.
In what must have been one of the most bizarre moments of a rather unusual evening, the pair sung a rendition of ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’, Kiki and Sir Elton’s famous duet.
Oh to have been a fly on the wall!
‘Sheila’s 90th birthday was a really special evening,’ Kiki told the Daily Mirror.
‘It was wonderful to see her on the dance floor having a brilliant time with so much love around her.’
Sheila and her 68-year-old son apparently had a major falling out after she made a comment which upset his husband David Furnish.
They haven’t spoken in years, but we can safely assume that Sheila is missing him if her choice of party performer is anything to go by.
A spokesperson for the singer told the Daily Mirror that he was unable to make the party due to tour commitments, but had sent flowers.
