PENGASSAN, NUPENG Suspend Strike Action

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have suspended their strike after a meeting with the Federal Government on Wednesday.

The meeting which ended at 1am was attended by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, the oil unions and international companies.

They discussed issues on job security, causalisation of workers and improved welfare.

Dr Ngige appealed to the companies not to lay off workers as government is trying to make the environment more conducive for their businesses.

Strike Action: Fuel Depots May Run Dry of Fuel By Wednesday This Week

Should the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria be allowed to linger beyond Wednesday, most depots in Apapa, Lagos, will run out of fuel stock, our correspondent has learnt.

Following the commencement of the strike on Thursday, loading at Apapa depots, where many marketers get petroleum products to other states, has been reduced due to the absence of workers of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund Board.

The PEF personnel usually certify marketers’ trucks to enable them to get bridging funds for fuel being transported to distant parts of the country.

NLC, TUC Declared Indefinite Strike Over 50% Salary Cut

Organised labour on Friday declared an indefinite strike over the state government’s decision to cut workers’ salaries by 50 percent.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura had also declared there was no going back on his administration’s decision to cut down salaries of its workers.

Comrade Abdullahi Adeka, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman and Danladi Namo, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman,  stated this while addressing journalists at the Labour House in Lafia.

They said the state government’s reluctance to reverse its decision have left them no choice but to declared indefinitely industrial action over 50 percent cut of their salaries.

Federal Government To Workers "Go To Work Or NO Pay" As NLC's Threat To Continue With Strike

Despite threats by the Ayuba Wabba faction of NLC to continue with its planned strike action, the Federal Government has advised all workers in the Civil service to resume for work, saying the no work no pay rule will be invoked in all ministries, agencies and department. 

Speaking after a meeting with labor, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal said:

"The National Industrial Court has given an injunction that no strike by NLC and TUC should hold tomorrow (today). It is therefore clear that anyone embarking on strike tomorrow (today) is doing so illegally and government is assuring all Nigerians to come out and do their jobs tomorrow (today). It the duty of government to provide security for her citizens and anyone who tries to coerce any worker to do their bidding would be made to face the law of the land. We had full cooperation with the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and they said they are not going on strike.For them, it is a complete return to work on Wednesday.

Labour Unions To Proceed On Strike Tomorrow Over Fuel Hike

THE Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress,TUC have resolved to proceed mobilise workers to begin indefinite strike, tomorrow over fuel hike.

The workers’ action,according to Vanguard source, is to take effect from 12 midnight today.

This was the resolution of the union at its National Executive Council,NEC meeting, held today,at the NLC headquarters in Abuja.

Although,newsmen, who waited anxiously to be briefed of the development at the meeting,were left unattended to,a source told Vanguard that the workers’ unions resolved to proceed on an indefinite strike,beginning from 12 midnight.

Nigerian Government to Propose N45,000 Minimum Wage to Labour Leaders

According to reports from Guardian newspapers, indications shows that the Federal Government would meet organised labour today in Abuja over the issue of the threatened mass action against government’s increase in the price of petrol, dangling a carrot before labour leaders.

The Guardian learnt that at the meeting slated for 3:00 p.m. at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Federal Government will be coming to the parley with the proposal for a new minimum wage that is fixed at N45, 000.But the increase comes with some conditions including reduction in the number of civil servants and merging ministries and agencies.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba confirmed the scheduled meeting saying he got a text message inviting him and other labour leaders to the meeting.
