Lai Mohammed Endorses Use Of Barcode In Nigeria Movie & Music to Fight Piracy

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has endorsed the use of barcode in Nigerian movies and music as a measure to protect intellectual properties from undue exploitation.

The Minister, who was responding to a request to that effect by the Caretaker Committee of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja on Friday, advised the Association to also liaise with the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and other regulatory bodies to ensure the success of the new measure.

"You asked that we make a declaration making it illegal for NTA, FRCN and other radio and television stations from using any music or movie, which is not barcoded...I think what we should do is to work through the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), NCC and other regulatory bodies," he said.

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said there is no truth in the insinuation that the report of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Armed Forces (2007-2015) was doctored.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi in Abuja today July 15th, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said what has been released so far is the report of the audit covering the period 2011 to 2015, adding that the Committee would commence the audit of procurement from 2007 to 2010 as soon as the necessary documents are available.

Nigerian Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed has apologized to Nigerian citizens over the lingering fuel scarcity being experienced Nationwide. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Lai said the FG empathizes with Nigerians and is doing everything possible to better the lives of Nigerians.

There were reports that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said that the Federal Government had lost control of the Nigerian economy. The reports alleged that he said this while fielding questions from a radio station in Abuja. However, Lai Mohammed who was a guest on Channels TV this morning, said the report is totally false.

"It is completely false. I saw the report and I spoke with the editor online of Thisday and he told me this was the story that was filed by his correspondent. That story was supposed to have emanated from a live interview I had with Radio Lagos FRCN and nothing like that happened.

Yes, it is true that I said that we inherited an economy where the price of crude went down and that that is not our making. That is not synonymous to saying that the economy is out of control.

Nigerians Should Be Ready For More Shocking Corruption Revelations - Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed said Nigerians should be prepared for more shocking revelations on corruption, which is yet to be released.

Mohammed raised the alarm that treasury looters had resorted to fighting back, using various means.

 Speaking to chiefs of newspapers on Tuesday,he said  

”When I met with the news and political editors in Lagos on Sunday, I said, among other things, that the government is aware that in fighting corruption, corruption will also fight back.

“I also said that those who stole us dry are powerful. They have newspapers, radio and television stations as well as online platforms, and an army of supporters to continuously deride the government’s war against corruption.”Well, I can tell you today that corruption is already fighting back, and it is fighting hard and dirty.

U.S. Endorsement Shows Buhari Succeeding In Fight Against Corruption – Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has hailed the U.S. endorsement of its anti-corruption fight, calling it an incentive to continue with the battle that must be won for the Nigeria to achieve sustainable growth.

Recently, the U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, at the World Economic Forum, WEF, Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, commended the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for its effort at combating corruption in Nigeria.

Mr. Kerry related how money meant to buy arms for Nigerian soldiers to combat Boko Haram was stolen by public officials; and how the Buhari administration was making moves to prosecute such persons.

On Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, told media executives in Lagos that the acknowledgement of the effort by the government could not have come at a better time.
