The Saudi man currently weighs in at a hefty 23 stone – but his potential father-in-law wants him to lose another nine before he can set a wedding date.
A dad has told his daughter's potential new husband he must lose up to NINE stone before he marries her – because he is too fat.
The hopeful husband-to-be wants to ask his neighbour for her hand in marriage – but her dad told him he has to shed nine stone from his hefty 23-stone physique.
The dejected man told Saudi Arabian newspaper Makkah: "For the last three years, I have been working hard to slash my weight.
"I have been exercising and dieting relentlessly."
Despite already losing four stone, the Saudi man was still told by his potential new father-in-law that he was too fat.
He was told the date of the wedding would be decided as soon as he weighed in at 14 stone.
Saudi women can only marry men that have been approved by their fathers, who act as their 'guardians'.
Currently, Saudi women cannot receive driving licences, although the law does not explicitly say they cannot drive.
In addition to women's rights issues, the country is also facing an obesity epidemic.
A health report last year said 70% of Saudi men were obese while 37% of Saudi women faced problems related to being overweight.
