A young girl had to have a massive ball of hair removed from her stomach after it stopped her eating.
The eight-year-old had become severely malnourished but at first doctors did not know why.
Eventually they took an x-ray of Niuniu Liang and realised her digestive system was blocked.
They pulled 2kgs of hair out of her stomach.
Her father, Ci, said: ‘We were always telling her not to chew her hair, but we didn’t have any idea that it would end up accumulating her stomach like this.
He added: ‘I wanted to make sure she got some good meals but then I realised she was being sick after each meal, and my parents told me it was often a problem.
‘That’s when I took to the hospital where they discovered the foreign body in her stomach, and then identified it as a hairball when it was removed.’
Doctors who removed the hairball said the youngster had probably started chewing her hair because she was distressed at not having her parents around because they both work away from home.
Mr Liang added: ‘I am going to see if either myself or my wife can make sure we are around as she is clearly missing her parents.’
The surgery was successful but Niuniu’s will remain in hospital for observation for a period of time with her father at her bedside.Follow Me On Twitter & Instagram: @effiongeton
