This Woman... Jacky Lloyd Falls Asleep 50 Times A Day

A woman suffering from narcolepsy has revealed that the condition causes her to fall asleep as often as 50 times a day – and that she has ‘no life’ as a result.
Jacky Lloyd, a former chef, told This Morning that while she has always had the condition, which causes sufferers to nod off at inappropriate times – she did not find out about it until she was diagnosed in 2008.
‘I’ve tried everything, all the medications that are available,’ she told Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden.
‘I’m on several different medications just to stay awake.’
The presenters warned that there was a possibility Jacky might even nod off during the interview – but she managed to stay conscious throughout, as she explained just how debilitating her narcolepsy really is.
As an added complication she revealed that she also suffers from cataplexy – a condition affecting two-thirds of narcolepsy sufferers – which causes her to be paralysed and drop to the floor at moments of high emotion.

‘Anything emotional-based and I’m paralysed,’ she admitted.
‘It can be anything – happy, sad, stress anger, surprise, a dog running past me or even a car horn beeping.
‘Sometimes I start slurring and people think I’m drunk, other times I just drop to the floor.’
She added: ‘I’ve done it in front of a bus and down the stairs.’
