Man Jailed For Shooting Friend Who Asked Him To Test His ‘Bullet-Proof’ Vest

A man who shot his friend dead after being asked to test his ‘bullet-proof’ vest has been jailed for seven years.
Ian Catley, 40, shot and killed his friend Philip Harper in the chest with a shotgun as the pair stood in a farmer’s field in Cambridgeshire last year.
And a devastated Catley – who says the killing has plagued him with nightmares – was jailed today by a judge who said despite his ‘genuine remorse’ he had breached his ‘obligations as a gun licence-holder.’

‘You shot Mr Harper at a distance of less than 20 feet, causing him catastrophic injuries and immediate death,’ Judge Jeffrey Pegden said at Southwark Crown Court.
