To ensure effective enforcement, the
command in collaboration with British America Tobacco, BAT, organised a one-day
sensitisation programme for senior police officers across the state, aimed at
helping officers to understand how to enforce the new law.
Delivering a paper on Understanding
the Lagos State Regulation of Smoking Law, at the event held at the Police
Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, Ikeja, a legal practitioner, Mr. Obafemi
Agaba, emphasised the key provisions of the law and penalties for offenders.
He said: “Smokers have the right to
smoke, just as non-smokers have a right not to be impacted by the smoke from
the cigarettes in their personal space.
