Weighed
down by a kidney-related ailment which lasted several months, star actress
ngozi nwosu is getting her life back after a successful medicals overseas. She
turned 50 on august 1 and a few days later, was celebrated by the best of
nollywood team led by seun oloketuyi in a week-long festivity. the recuperating
actress may be returning to movie set sooner than later. this and more about
her world she shared with Lanre Odukoya from Thisday Live.
TURNING 50…
I am grateful
to God for considering the circumstance I was before now. I thank God I made it
to 50. I turned 50 on August 1. From midnight I had started receiving calls
from my friends and family from Nigeria. I wasn’t actually in Nigeria that day.
I was in England. I had breakfast in bed after my morning prayer. My friend
surprised me by bringing my breakfast to me in bed. I have never had that
before. It was nice. There was a time I thought I wouldn’t be 50 but with God
all things are possible. I never gave up. So, here I am today.
BEFORE COMING ON ‘WHO WANTS
TO BE A MILLIONAIRE’ SHOW…
I thought it was something I could handle on my own.
It wasn’t as if I turned deaf ears, I was just handling it on my own thinking
it would be over soon until God said ‘No, my daughter, I would handle it my own
way’ and here I am today.
PAINFUL THINGS THEY SAID
ABOUT MY HEALTH CHALLENGE…
There were so many crazy things I heard people say
about what was wrong with me, but I don’t want to go into that now. I thank God
that I’m alive and to them, I say thank you. They contributed to my being
strong and I’m alive to prove them wrong.
LESSONS FROM MY
PREDICAMENT…
Be yourself, believe in God and always know that nobody knows
tomorrow. It could be your turn tomorrow. Sorry, I’d rather not talk about my
medical experience now. I am back and enjoying it to the glory of God, all
those are now behind me.
HOW LONG I WISH TO SPEND IN
LIFE…
Until God says ‘My daughter, come home and rest.’
PARTLY BACK FOR THE
SCRIPTS…
I was only at the Fuji House of Commotion where I played a few roles.
They have been waiting for me all this while to come back. They ran out of
episodes and I just had to be there to play my part. They were so happy to see
me again. I went to the location before I went back to England. Of course, I’m
ready to work but I still need some rest. So, if I’ll be working at all, it
won’t be fully. There’s nothing I cannot do because of age, but because of
health for now. If you notice my walking is not really smooth yet. I use a
walking stick. And it will take some time before I get back to myself. That’s
the only challenge I have for now. If I’m walking, it has to be at my pace
until I’m back to the normal Ngozi Nwosu.
SPECIAL GIFTS I’VE GOT AT
50...
I have received the grace of God. That is the first special gift. The
second is my life. God has given me back my life. This is my second coming.
It’s a gift I really cherish. My doctor in England gave me a gift. However,
just live your life because no one knows tomorrow.
MORE THINGS I NEED FROM
GOD…
I desire a long lasting life, not like Methuselah. I don’t want to become
a nuisance. I want a life that even if I turn 80 or 90, I should still be sound
and well.
HOW AGN CAN HELP TO SAVE
MORE PRACTITIONERS’…
Actors’ Guild of Nigeria’s president, Ibinabo Fiberisima
said in her speech that they now have a health scheme for practitioners. I will
encourage them to stick to that scheme because life is too short and again, the
things we thought were nothing might turn out to be something. From the period
that I was sick till now, so many people have dropped dead. I went through the
same things and I’m still standing. That is why I said God gave me the second
chance to live again and I thank Him.
MY CHILDHOOD FRIENDS…
I
have so many, some have gone and some are still hanging on there.
NOLLYWOOD FRIENDS…
Do I
have any? No. When you’re rich, they’re your friends but when you’re not, they
aren’t yours anymore. Most of them are a flash in the pan.
MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY…
No, I
don’t want to talk about my family. It’s my birthday and I just want to
celebrate.
CHANGES IN MY FEEDING MODE
AND LIFESTYLE…
I have learnt so many things about what you don’t take. When one
is aging, it is important for one to see a doctor often and seeks advice. It’s
only a doctor and nutritionists who can educate you on what to eat and how to
live a trouble-free life.
ALCOHOL WAS NEVER
RESPONSIBLE FOR MY KIDNEY PROBLEM…
It has nothing to do with that. There are so
many people, even kids that have kidney problems. They didn’t take alcohol.
Though it could, it really doesn’t have to do with drinking and smoking in many
cases.
PERCEPTION
ABOUT ALL I’VE BEEN THROUGH…
Yes, it’s a blessing in disguise, a big one
indeed. To those who thought this is the end of Ngozi Nwosu, I want to tell
them that this is just the beginning.
