The police have taken over security
at the main campus of the Paul University, Awka after last weekend’s invasion
of the campus by
Hoodlums, last weekend stormed Paul University, Awka violating
some female students and critically injuring a security guard.
Following this invasion, the police
have taken over security at the school.
Confirming the new security
arrangement, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Ikechukwu
Abana said the police formation on the campus would be a permanent arrangement.
“It is not just for the interim. It
is a permanent arrangement,” he said. He added that the Anambra State Command
of the Nigeria Police Force had already approved the arrangement, where men
patroling the institution in vans had been sent.
According to Abana, the institution was also
working out an arrangement with the Awka vigilance group to further tighten
security around the university.
He said it was obvious that most of
the criminals that invaded the campus came in from a nearby community.
Abana however said of the new
security arrangement, that it would not affect the internal security system of
the university, which he assured would continue to operate in spite of the
arrangements made with the police and the vigilance group.
The management of the institution and
the police Abana said, were still investigating the security breach with a view
to identifying and bringing the culprits to book, despite measures put in
place.
He therefore urged students and staff to go about their
lawful duties without fear, as he assured them that last weekend’s incident
would not repeat itself.
