A WOMAN who suffered a miscarriage dressed up as a nurse to steal another mother's child.
Zhao Juan was apprehended by police after she allegedly donned hospital attire and snatched a newborn baby boy to pass off as her own.
Reports said Zhao had suffered a miscarriage during the first three months of her pregnancy, but somehow managed to pretend to her family that she was still pregnant.
She reportedly did not wish to tell her family of the traumatic experience and hatched a plan to fake the childbirth instead.
After nine months, when the time came for her to "give birth", Zhao went to the Hongze Chinese Hospital of Herbal Medicine and stole a nurse’s outfit, after which she snuck into the maternity ward and kidnapped the newborn son of a woman named Wang Li.
After snatching the child, Zhao took the child to her home and called an ambulance, claiming to have given birth in her residence.
However, as fate - or karma - would have it, Zhao was sent to the very same hospital from which she kidnapped Wang’s son.
Since Zhao did not show any physical signs of childbirth, and as hospital staff were already looking for the child’s kidnapper, Zhao’s arrival helped police match the child with the information on Wang’s missing son.
After a short interrogation, Zhao confessed to the crime.
A paternity test was also conducted to confirm that the baby boy did indeed belong to Wang.
