Sex Workers, Hoodlums Take Over Delta State Skill Centre in Asaba

Hoodlums, including commercial sex workers, have taken over the Delta State Women Affairs Skill Acquisition Centre, Asaba, leaving 40 sewing machines and 60 computers allegedly stolen.

The skill acquisition centre built by the wife of the former governor of the state, Mrs. Nkoyo Ibori, in 1999 is at present, a shadow of itself.

It is located behind the legislative quarters along Nnebisi Okpanam Road, Asaba, and has allegedly been harbouring all sorts of miscreants, including commercial sex workers, who during nightfall, have converted many of the rooms into sex slaughter slabs.

Investigation revealed that armed hoodlums broke into the centre and allegedly carted away vital equipments.
The state Police Commissioner, Alkali Baba Usman who confirmed the incident, said the hoodlums gained entrance into the centre while the security guards were asleep, adding that two of the guards have been arrested and are currently helping the police for further investigation.

Reacting to the issue, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Shola Williams, expressed regret on the state of affairs at the centre, especially with the set of broken chairs and dirty environment.

While describing the environment as a serious apology, the commissioner confirmed that the skill acquisition centre was an eyesore, saying, “The Centre is completely a mess and all the equipment have been stolen. No students can be admitted to learn any craft of their choice; it is completely in shambles.”
Williams, however, assured that the state government would do something to bring the centre back to shape.
