Kas Beats: The Fimile Master Turns Music Minister By Angel Works

Chatting with the charming Kas is always an interesting experience. The singer /producer of the huge banger   “Fimile” is very easy to talk to, with a positive energy that is contagious. He quickly filled me in on his activities since we last met a couple of years ago; travelling on tour all over, experimenting with a lot of different music styles in the studio, doing collabos with a range of Nigerian artistes and producers. Over the years, he has worked with all the biggest names, including Sir Shina Peters, M.I., Goldie, Naeto C, 2Face Idibia, Dbanj, Ice Prince, Wande Coal and Duncan Mighty. He said with real conviction, “I am very proud to be a Nigerian musician right now. There is a huge awareness about our music out there.”

In terms of his latest music projects, Kas has just kicked off a unique campaign, releasing a new single every two weeks, with an eclectic range that cannot be easily pigeonholed. His latest viral video is out making waves in the industry. On current trends, he confides about how much he respects the iconic 2Face in particular, for his humble character and his musicality, especially the ability to write songs that capture the imagination.

Kas also reminisces about the early days when he was active as a drummer in his Mum’s church, alongside Don Jazzy, who played guitar and keyboards, laughing about their antics often straight after an all-night club session. His personality is an interesting combination of the worldly and spiritual, without pretension. He confesses that over the past year he has been going through a phase which has brought him closer to where he feels God has called him to be. He plans to use his musical gifts directly to serve God by establishing the “PraiseGod Ministry” in Lagos, where the focus will be on praise and worship, and the congregation will be welcome irrespective of background or appearance.  He sounds very passionate about the project, which he is unveiling publicly for the first time through this medium.
When asked how he intended to fund the ministry, he replied that he felt sure “God will send helpers”, since the project was birthed by divine inspiration. Now the proud father of two young boys, Kas is comfortable financially due to his good investments including property in Nigeria and the UK.
Kas appears to be drawing closer to a destination he has been slowly, and a little reluctantly, approaching for quite some time. With the greater maturity, humility and self-awareness of one who tasted great fame and popularity at a young age, and then had to work hard to try to replicate that success, he is probably better equipped emotionally now to play a role in touching the hearts and minds of the disaffected in society.
