Dutch Artist Paints Portraits Of Royals on EGGS

Thousands of royals have been preserved in oil paintings that now hang on palace walls, but one artist wanted to take a more humble approach when it came to capturing monarchs.

Tiety Entjes-Weij creates intricate portraits of British and Dutch hierarchy by painting their faces on eggs.

Tiety, who lives in the Netherlands, has recently added the Duchess of Cambridge as well as Queen Maxima and her three daughters (Princess Ariane, Princess Alexia and Princess Catharina-Amalia) to her egg repertoire.

In order to give herself the best canvas with the optimum amount of space for her pictures, Tiety opts for goose and swan eggs over hen eggs with each piece taking around six weeks to complete.

The artist has even seen her nine-year-old grandson take an interest in egg painting which is a popular craft in the Netherlands that boasts over 90 professional egg artists.

Tiety’s eggs have been exhibited at different Dutch museums, including La Porcelano in Wassenaar, and the artist is planning several more displays.
She told Helena Egg Art: 'My Husband and I are organising egg art exhibition in the Netherlands, Wassenaar, Arnhem-Velp and The Mill of Sloten (Amsterdam).'
