A letter to Father Christmas, written almost a century ago, has been found hidden away in a chimney in a boarding school in Monmouthshire, Wales.
The note was found, protected by a ledge in the chimney, by the school’s caretaker when he was asked to clear out the brickwork in one of the bedrooms at Monmouth Girl’s School.
Addressed to ‘Santa’, and signed by a girl named ‘Haly H’, the charred message asked St Nick for a booked titled Tell England and a ‘fancy dress with shoes’.
And while we’ll never know if little Haly H ever received the frock, shoes or book (which was written in 1922, and was how the undated letter has been dated), her sweet letter to Santa has certainly brought joy to her old school all these years on.
In fact, Haly’s letter to Santa will now be displayed along with a copy of Tell England on the walls of the boarding house. Very sweet.
