Man sells Wife to Ritualists at N800,000 in Plateau

THE Plateau State police command has arrested a man, who allegedly sold his wife to ritualists for N800,000, just asit arrested other suspects for various crimes within the state.

Parading the suspects, the state Police Commissioner, Nasiru Oki, said the man, identified as Maimako, who resides at Kwalla in Qanpan Local Government Area of the state, lured his wife, Agnes, to a nearby bush in a pretext to fetch firewoods for domestic use, adding that on getting to spot, where the ritualists were waiting, he handed his wife over to them and disappeared after collecting the money.

“ The two dreaded men asked Agnes whether she is a spinster or not and the woman told them that the man who handed her over to them was her husband. They told her to run from the place since the spiritual sacrifice requires a woman, who has not known a man.”
To the surprise of the husband, the wife resurfaced and he had to take to his heels, but was later arrested by the people of the village and handed over to the police.

Speaking with newsmen at the police headquarters, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that his wife was not suitable for the ritual, adding he did what he did due to hardship, but that he tricked the men to collect initial deposit of N400, 000, expecting to collect the remaining afterwards.

According to Oki, “further investigation revealed that the said Mohammed and Idoko were sighted on July 25, driving two Toyota Highlander SUVs along Bukuru Expressway, Jos, when policemen from the state CID Jos gave the suspects a hot chase. They escaped arrest, but were later intercepted at Uyo, Akwa Ibom, by men of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad. The detective left for Uyo and took over the suspects and two of the Toyota Highlander SUVs.”

The suspects confessed that the two Highlander SUVs were stolen in Kano by one Sunny SNU and Alex SNU and sold to them at the rate of N500, 000 each and that they took the cars to Uyo, in order to sell them before they were arrested by the police.
