Nigeria Police confirm suicide bomber, four others killed in Kano bomb blast

Five people, including a suspected suicide bomber, were killed in the bomb explosion that rocked Kano on Sunday night, the police have said.

In a text message to PREMIUM TIMES, the Kano police spokesperson, Magaji Majiya, said “there was a suspected suicide bomb blast at middle road by gold coast road, Sabon Gari Kano.”

“Five persons were killed including the suicide bomber,” he said adding that the corpses were promptly moved to the morgue as the police and other security agencies promptly arrived the scene.

The incident, which occurred at Gold Coast / Middle Road junction, also destroyed vehicles that were passing when the suicide bomber’s car exploded.

Meanwhile, calm has returned to the Sabon Gari area of the city where the blast occurred.
On Monday morning, residents were seen going about their businesses and children being taken to school in most parts of the city.

The Sabon Gari market, located near the blast area was also open and busy on Monday morning.

Adjoining markets at Galadima Road, Singer Market at Ado Bayero Road, and the France Road Market have all opened for business.

A witness of the blast said that the suicide bomber may have have contemplated high-casualty target as the bomb exploded suddenly while he was driving the car, probably before he got to the intended target.

He said the bomber did not hit any specific target as the bomb exploded suddenly; thus affecting other vehicles passing by or parked nearby.

The police said they have commenced investigations into the blast.
