Private Funeral Held For Philip Seymour Hoffman

Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have paid their final respects at the funeral of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Ethan Hawke, Michelle Williams, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams were among the famous faces who attended the private event at the Church of St Ignatius Loyola on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

 

Hoffman's partner of 15 years, Mimi O'Donnell, and the couple's three children - 10-year-old Cooper, seven-year-old Tallulah and five-year-old Willa - were also there to say goodbye. After an hour-and-a-half service, the family stood on the steps of the church as the actor's coffin was carried to a waiting hearse.
The two girls clung to their mother. Hoffman, 46, was found dead on Sunday with a needle in his arm.


Police believe the actor died of a drugs overdose, and found bags of heroin in his apartment. The official results of the post-mortem are delayed pending further toxicology tests.
The NYPD have arrested four people in connection with the possession of heroin, reportedly finding Hoffman's number on at least one of their mobile phones.
Lawyers for the three people charged vigorously denied their clients had any role in Hoffman's death.
Hoffman, widely considered among the best actors of his generation, was nominated four times for an Academy Award. He earned the coveted Oscar for his portrayal of American writer Truman Capote in 2005.
He also received three Tony nominations for his work on Broadway, which included an acclaimed turn in 2012 as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman.
Earlier in the week Broadway theatres dimmed their lights in honour of the widely admired actor, and fans held a candle light vigil.
A larger memorial service is being planned for later this month.
