A
woman, Mrs. Nike Adekunle, who bit her neighbour in the eye during fighting at
their Idi-Araba, Mushin residence, has been arraigned before the Ijeshatedo
Magistrates’ Court, Lagos southwest Nigeria, for assault. The
incident happened at 5, Shittu Street, NEPA Bus Stop, Idi-Araba, Mushin where
they reside as tenants. The
accused was alleged to have engaged her co-tenant, Mrs. Fatimo Oladimeji in a
fight over disagreement on the use of the cloth hanger in their compound.
The
accused, a mother of two, allegedly grabbed Fatimo’s head and bit her left eye. The
victim was rushed to the Mushin General Hospital.

gathered that the two women were friends before their relationship turned sour
over petty jealousy.
The
victim who spoke with P.M.NEWS on her hospital bed, said doctors had yet to
determine the extent of damage to her eye.
Narrating
what happened, Fatimo said she was sitting in front of their house when Nike
who had finished washing her clothes went to the hanger to spread them.
“I
asked her to shift the clothes so that the water from the wet clothes will not
spread to where I was sitting.
“She
refused and we exchanged words before we started fighting.
While
fighting, she bit me in the eye and I was rushed to the hospital,” she
narrated.
The
accused, however, blamed the victim for the fight. She explained that Fatimo
went into her room and brought out a knife, which she used in cutting the rope,
and threw her clothes in the gutter. She
admitted biting her in the eye during fighting.
She
disclosed that she was arrested and charged to court by the police when the
matter was reported at the Area ‘D’ Command, Mushin.
When
the charge was read to her, she pleaded not guilty and the presiding
magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Gbajumo granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two
sureties in like sum. The
matter was adjourned for further hearing.
