Two suspected rapists arrested in Kebbi

The Police Command in Kebbi on Wednesday arrested two suspected rapists. There has been an increase in rape cases in the state recently.

The command said the first suspect was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Birnin Kebbi while the second raped a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Yauri Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Chukwu Ikechukwu, said this in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the first suspect, a resident of Birnin Kebbi, carried out the assault when he offered his victim a ride in his vehicle.

According to Mr. Ikechukwu the second rape victim and her mother reported the case to the police in January.

The victim told the police that after her assaulter lured her into an uncompleted building in Gungun Sarki area, he had canal knowledge of her without her consent.

“The rape victim had been admitted in hospital in Yauri for treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

He said the accused persons would soon be arraigned in court, while investigations were still being conducted.

The policeman said the increase in rape cases in Kebbi is embarrassing.
