GOLDIE HARVEY IS DEAD: (1982-2013) R.I.P!



Black valentine started only as rumours, before eventually, phone calls, text messages and Social media went alight with news that Afro-pop Star, Goldie Harvey had died.
The 31-year-old singer, former Big Brother housemate just arrived the country from the United States, where she had attended the just concluded Grammy Awards.
She was reported to have slumped and rushed to Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. Where she eventually passed on and was pronounced dead a few minutes after 10:00 PM.
Cause of death remains uncertain at the moment, until an autopsy is performed. But eyewitness account says her friends and colleagues deposited her remains at the mortuary in Ikeja, Lagos.


Kennis Music label boss Kenny ‘Keke’ Ogungbe, his younger brother ID Ogungbe, Derenle Edun, STV presenter Yvonne ‘Vixen’ Ekwere were identified inside the hospital building at the time Goldie was confirmed Dead.

The corpse has been lodged at the Lekan Ogunsola Memorial House of the Ikeja General Hospital.

Kenny Ogungbe declined to make any official comments at the time. With the only confirmation from the Label is a message that was posted on Goldie’s twitter handle via her official Facebook page.

“On behalf of Kennis Music, I’m sad to officially confirm the shocking and untimely passage of Nigeria’s pop star, Goldie Harvey.  With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey.
Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache at her Park View residence shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance Goldie passed away, the abundance of talent she has exhibited in her but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. Her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters survive her.  We deeply sympathize with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media  for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are still devastated by the sudden loss.” 
Meanwhile, the remains of Goldie, who hails from Ekiti State has been deposited in the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos.  Goldie represented Nigeria at the Big Brother Star Game in 2012. Her latest effort, she described as three nawti singles from her forthcoming African Invasion album are “Skibo”. “Miliki” and ” Got To Have It,” are presently enjoying heavy rotations on radio and TV stations across the continent. The family will announce burial arrangements.  May her soul rest in peace.

Goldie, whose real names are Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey was nicknamed “Goldie” because of her hair colour, which was naturally golden.

She was born in 1982 to an Ijebu mother and an Ikole Ekiti father.

The first of four kids, Goldie attended the Green Springs Montessori Primary School and St. John’s College, Palm Groove, in Lagos.
Her music career remotely kicked off at the University of Sunderland where she was admitted to study Business Management.
Goldie was signed on to Kennis Music in 2010.
A few months later, she released her acclaimed debut titled, ‘Gold’.
Her hit songs include ‘You Know It’, ‘Jawo Jawo’ and DTMB (Don’t Touch My Body).
Goldie has so far received a total of 10 awards, including Exquisite Lady of the year, Best Female Artiste award and City People Best Female Artiste of the year.
She has also been inducted as a Federal Celebrity Special Marshal, alongside other notable Nigerian Celebrities. The Law Students Society of the Obafemi Awolowo University recently issued her an Award for Musical Excellence under the category of Best Female Artiste of the Year. She has also been conferred a United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace by the Federal Government.
Goldie became the final celebrity to exit the BBA7 star game house in 2012 as the 3rd runner up.
