President Goodluck Jonathan at a special reception held in honour of the Victorious Super Eagles
in Abuja Tuesday evening rewarded the Coach, Players and Training Squad with
National Honours, millions of Naira and plots of land in Abuja.
Coach
Stephen Keshi - Commander of the Order of Niger. N10million and a Plot of land
in Abuja.
Assistant
Coaches Daniel Amokachi, Ike Shorumu, Super Eagles players, Officer of the
Order of Niger with N5m and a Plot of land in Abuja.
Technical
crew - N2 million
Billionaire businessmen Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia both donated
half a million dollars to each of the Super Eagles, while Dangote donated N5m
to each player and technical crew of the Super Eagles.
This
comes after earlier in the day, a cross section of Nigerian soccer fans on
thronged Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to welcome the Super
Eagles.
The
players and officials arrived in Abuja at 3.25 p.m. and were decorated in
Nigeria’s national colours as they came out of the plane.
In
loud ovations, the excited fans stood up for the champions, singing and
dancing.
The
Super Eagles returned from South Africa, where they won the Africa Cup of Nations
on Sunday by beating Burkina Faso 1-0, to win the cup for the third time.
