NIGERIA: Fire consumes woman, daughter in Bayelsa

An unlucky 38-year-old mother in Akenfa area Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Mrs Elimiyegha Werinipre, was burnt to death while trying to rescue her 7-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, from a fire that consumed their home on Tuesday night.
Though the cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained, neighbors disclosed that the fire started in the early hours of the day.
Narrating the tragic incident, an eyewitness said “the husband of the deceased, Francis, had rushed out of the burning house with one of their kids, thinking that everyone else was out.”
It was until he asked after his seven year old daughter that his alarmed wife realized that the girl was trapped in the house.
“she rushed back into the burning house to rescue the daughter but the roof of the home collapsed and trapped them in the blaze” the witness said.
Francis who allegedly sustained severe burns was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa where he is presently receiving treatment.
