"Massive fire in Lagos Island. "Residents fear firecrackers could have caused it"



An explosion in a warehouse has sparked a major fire in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital.



The explosion which affected nearby buildings and cars is suspected to have been caused by a Fireworks storage facility in jankara market idumota. The building is said to be located on Oko Awo Street in the popular Jankara area of Lagos, close to King Ado Secondary School.
Witnesses said fireworks were stored in the warehouse on Lagos Island, and the blaze quickly spread to other buildings.
Many injured as explosion shatters building packed with fire crackers in Idumagbo area of Lagos Island, Lagos. Nearby houses also affected.

The blast reportedly shook windows of homes several miles away and a thick cloud of smoke could be seen rising over the island.
It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.
Local residents were reportedly commandeering fire hoses to try to help firefighters put out the flames.
