A man who shot himself in the penis was arrested after he allegedly lied to police about how it happened.
Donald Anthony Watson gave conflicting stories to investigating cops about how the bizarre incident happened when he went to hospital.
He initially told police he was shot by a "man who tried to rob him" as he took the rubbish bin out of his apartment.
But cops found no evidence of the shooting when they went to check the bins at his apartment block.
A witness also told officers he heard screams of pain coming from Watson's apartment in the early hours of September 6.
Cops were unconvinced by Watson's version of events and issued a search warrant on his house.
They reportedly found what appeared to be bullet fragments on Watson's bed, as well as an empty gun case.
Watson then told police in a second interview that he shot himself while looking at a gun he was trying to buy.
He was then re-interviewed two days after surgery at the Avera McKennan hospital in South Dakota and told cops the gun was discharged in his pocket, striking him in the penis.
Watson refused to tell police where the gun is now, according to Argus Leader.
Watson was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a drug offender, false report of a crime to law enforcement and false report of information to law enforcement.Follow Me On Twitter & Instagram: @effiongeton
