Usually you fight fire with water, sometimes you fight fire with fire, and other times you fight fire with beaters.
But students at George Mason University have come up with another technique that uses soundwaves.
Viet Tran and Seth Robertson, electrical engineer students, are the people behind the idea that uses low-frequency sound waves.
Tran said: ‘I think in the kitchen it could be on a stove top, but eventually I’d like to see this applied to maybe swarm robotics where it’s attached to drones and that would be applied to forest fires or building fires where you wouldn’t want to sacrifice human life.’
Robertson added: ‘Engineering is all about making the impossible possible.’
