THE Jeremy Kyle Show aired some of its most emotional scenes ever today as a desperate mum pleaded with her drug addict son to stop taking cocaine.
Irene appeared on the ITV chat show as a last-ditch attempt to get through to son Paul, who even chopped off his own finger due to his addiction.
The fraught mother told Jeremy of how she has had to declare herself bankrupt after getting £27,000 in debt to bail out her son.
She told the host she “hated her life” after drug dealers burst into her house and grabbed her by the throat attempting to get the money Paul owed them.
“I love him but I think he’s a fool. It’s destroyed by life. I lost my job because of it. I hate my life,” she said, explaining how Paul had even stole £1,800 from her work to pay for his habit.
As Jeremy introduced Paul, he revealed he had spent £200,000 in 12 years on buying cocaine.
While he insisted he wanted to change for the sake of his mum and two children, his previous attempts to give up drugs failed.
He chopped off his finger to deliberately get into hospital and get away from drugs, but went back to them as soon has he got out.
Jeremy then showed him the real damage he had done to his body after a consolation with the show’s doctor.
The examination proved he was showing signs of chronic cocaine use, with his nose starting to collapse, breathing difficulties and a heart rate of over 200 beats per minute.
Paul was then offered a lifeline as Jeremy told him that he had enrolled him on a 12 week residential programme to overcome his addiction and get his life back.
This led to an emotional moment between Paul and Irene as he was sent off there and then to the treatment centre, with the mum and son sharing a tender hug as they said goodbye.
But only time will tell to see if Paul has what it takes to overcome his demons.
