Daniela Poggiali was arrested in October after police began
investigating nearly 40 unexplained deaths at a hospital in central
Italy. Photos – reportedly taken by a colleague of Poggiali – show the nurse beaming as she stands over corpses in hospital beds.
Prosectors claim Poggiali murdered patients that irritated her or had demanding family members. She allegedly used deadly doses of potassium, a compound used in lethal injections across the US.
A nurse, who claims she was bullied into taking the sick snaps of Poggiali, told Corriere della Sera: "She [Poggiali] was particularly euphoric and wanted to have a photo next to the dead body.
"I didn't have the courage to say no, as she is a vindictive person.
"She used to give laxatives to patients only to make life difficult for nurses on the next shift."
Poggiali
is currently awaiting trial and has been bombarded with fan mail from
admirers who are apparently fascinated by her good looks.
A prison
spokesman said: "Over the last few weeks since she was placed here
there has been a steady stream of letters from males.
"Most of them say how pretty and good looking they think she is, and one or two have even contained proposals of marriage."
